Former cameraman Patrick McDermott had been dating the Grease star for nine years when he went missing during an overnight fishing trip off the coast of California in June 2005.
But independent investigators have now dramatically claimed that McDermott actually faked his apparent death and instead relocated to a remote part of Mexico, where he is said to have set up home with a German lover.

Numerous theories have since emerged, ranging from suicide to accidental drowning, but even California’s Coast Guard concluded that he was almost certainly dead.
But now Australian weekly magazine Women’s Day has spoken with investigator John Nazarian who described such theories as “preposterous.”
“To come up with the conclusion that he fell of the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I've ever heard in my life,” he said.
“'It's rumored he was with a German national. I spoke to people there. The girl he was travelling with was described as having a German accent,” Nazarian said.
One of the main difficulties in working out what actually happened to McDermott is that none of the 22 people on the fishing trip with him saw what happened.
Despite a frantic search in the waters off California, no body was ever found.
